01 — Challenge
Project managers on a construction team lose time every week in their software. The old interface was clunky. It was built over the years, and it showed.
The worst example was supply-chain delays. To find a delay, a manager had to click through many screens. But delays are exactly what they need to see early.
The data was all there. The problem was how it was shown. When data has no clear order, people have to hunt for answers. We wanted the same data on a screen that is quick to read and quick to act on.
02 — Approach
We designed around one question: what does a project manager need to see first?
- Data ordered by urgency. Metrics are grouped by how soon they need action, so critical items come to the top and routine items stay quiet.
- Bottlenecks come to the user. Delays and risks are highlighted on the dashboard. Nobody has to dig for them.
- Modular widgets. The dashboard is made of blocks that can be arranged for different roles.
- High contrast, dark theme. Chosen for readability in hard working conditions.
- One component library. Charts, tables and cards share the same parts, so new screens are quick to build.
03 — Outcome
The new dashboard puts supply-chain delays and other urgent items on the first screen. Managers reach them in fewer clicks than before.
The dark, high-contrast library gives the product team one set of parts to build with. New screens now follow the same rules.
The client said the new design made the product look stronger in its market.
