Working with a design studio in Bangladesh: time zones, payments and process

What it is like to hire a design studio in Dhaka from the US, UK or EU: overlap hours, how we communicate, contracts, invoices and straight answers.

Why companies hire in Bangladesh

We are a studio in Dhaka, so we are biased. But we hear the same reasons from clients who chose a design agency in Bangladesh, and they are fairly ordinary.

  • Cost. Local costs are lower than in the US or Western Europe, and that is reflected in studio prices. We will not claim to be the cheapest, and we do not think that should be the only reason to choose us.
  • Access to skilled people. Bangladesh has a growing community of designers and developers. A small studio can offer a senior person full attention, where a larger firm in a big city might put that person on five accounts.
  • A team that can start soon. Hiring a designer takes months. A studio can usually begin a good deal sooner.
  • Work that continues while you sleep. You send feedback at the end of your day and find new work when you wake up.

The honest trade-off is distance. We are far away, and the time difference is real. The rest of this post covers how we handle that.

Time zones and overlap hours

Dhaka is six hours ahead of UTC, all year round. Bangladesh does not currently use daylight saving time, so the gap changes only when your clocks do.

Here is the rough picture for our clients' time zones. Booked calls can sit anywhere between 10:00 and 23:00 Dhaka time, and we take bookings Saturday to Thursday.

Your locationTime difference from DhakaOverlap in practice
London5 to 6 hours behind usGood. Your whole working day falls inside our late afternoon and evening.
Central Europe4 to 5 hours behind usGood. Afternoon calls on your side are early evening on ours.
US East Coast10 to 11 hours behind usWorkable. Your morning is our evening, so calls fit before about noon on your side.
US West Coast13 to 14 hours behind usHard. Live calls mean very early mornings for you or late nights for us, so we lean on async work.

The gaps shift by one hour when the US and Europe change their clocks. Check the exact numbers for the date of your call with a time zone tool.

The honest summary: Europe is easy, the US East Coast works well, and the US West Coast needs a team that is comfortable with written and recorded updates. If you need someone in your office all day, a remote studio is not the right fit.

How we communicate: Slack and weekly Loom

When people cannot meet easily, they need a different habit. Ours has two parts.

A shared Slack channel. Quick questions, files and requests go there. You can write at any time. We answer in our working hours, and we say so plainly if something will take longer.

A weekly Loom video. Once a week we record a short video of what we finished, what we are working on, and what we need from you. You watch it when it suits you and reply with comments. This replaces many meetings. It also leaves a record, which helps when more than one person on your side needs to follow along.

We still use live calls where they are worth it: the kickoff, key reviews, and the walkthrough at the end. Between those, most work is asynchronous, which suits a distributed team anyway.

A few habits help it work:

  • Say in the first call who can approve what, and how fast you can usually reply.
  • Put feedback in writing, with a screenshot or a comment on the design file, so nothing depends on memory.
  • Tell us early when priorities change. It is much cheaper to change course in week one than in week four.

Contracts, invoices and payments

This is where new clients often worry, so let us be plain about what we do.

  • A written agreement before work starts. It covers the scope, the price, the deliverables and the payment steps. Our work is fixed scope, so you know what you are buying.
  • Clear payment steps. We agree the invoice schedule and currency in the proposal, before you pay anything.
  • Ownership. Ask about it before you sign, with us or anyone else. You should get the design files, and the agreement should say who owns the work.
  • Special paperwork. If your company needs an NDA, a vendor form or a specific contract, tell us at the start and we will work with it.

If your finance team has questions about paying a company in Bangladesh, ask them early. It is a normal request, and answering it at the beginning avoids delay later.

Quality and seniority

The worry we hear most is whether lower prices mean lower quality. They do not need to. Price depends on where a team lives and how it is organized, as well as on skill.

What matters is who does the work. Sigma Studio is small and led by its founder, MD Rakib Shekh, who designs and also writes front-end code. You work with senior people, not a sales team that passes your project to someone you never meet.

Do not take our word for it. Look at the work on our site, ask what we did on each project, and start with something small if you want to test us. A free design review or a one-week UX audit costs little, and you will learn quickly whether we think the way you do.

Common worries and straight answers

Will the language be a problem? We work in English, in writing and on calls. We write simply and check that we have understood you. If something is unclear, we ask.

What if I cannot reach you? You will always have a channel and a weekly update. If something urgent happens outside our hours, leave a message and we will reply as soon as we are online.

Will my project be passed to someone else? Not without telling you. Ask in the first call who will work on it, and we will name them.

What about holidays? Bangladesh has public holidays that differ from yours. We share the dates that affect your project at the start.

Can you work with my developers? Yes. We hand over in Figma, with components and states, and walk your engineers through it. Your team can ask questions after.

Is a remote studio right for every project? No. If you need daily in-person workshops, or a designer sitting inside your team all day, hire locally.

What next

We keep a short page on working with us from Bangladesh with the practical details, and you can read how a project runs on the process page. If you would like to talk, book a call through the contact page. Tell us where you are, and we will check the overlap hours before we agree to anything.
